Hilton Head Island offers an endless variety of activities, restaurants, and outdoor adventures, especially around Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort and the Captains Walk oceanfront community. With so much to experience, we’ve put together a list of some of our favorite things to do during your stay. Conveniently located in the heart of Palmetto Dunes, this oceanfront condo makes it easy to enjoy everything Hilton Head has to offer.
Within the resort, guests can enjoy direct access to the private beach anytime. Be sure to bring your favorite beach chairs, towels, and toys for a relaxing day by the ocean. During the day, seasonal lifeguards are on duty for added safety, and beach services are available nearby offering umbrella rentals, beach chairs, and water gear.
Fishing is another favorite island activity. Bring your own gear or rent equipment from Hilton Head Outfitters to fish the scenic 11-mile lagoon system or cast directly from the beach. The lagoon is home to redfish, flounder, black drum, and more, while the Atlantic surf offers plenty of fun catches as well. Light tackle works surprisingly well in the lagoons, especially with braided line, while surf fishing enthusiasts may prefer an 8-foot rod with a classic pompano rig and pyramid weight.
Golfers will love having three championship golf courses located within Palmetto Dunes, along with many additional courses throughout Hilton Head Island. The resort also features 26 tennis and pickleball courts available for reservation. With miles of bike trails winding throughout the island, biking is one of the best ways to explore Hilton Head’s unique blend of active outdoor living and laid-back coastal charm.
When it’s time to dine, enjoy resort favorites including The Dunes House, Alexander's Restaurant & Wine Bar, HH Prime, and Big Jim's BBQ, Burgers & Pizza. The resort’s general store is also convenient for snacks, drinks, and quick meals. Around the island, some of our favorite local restaurants include The Crazy Crab, Skull Creek Boathouse, A Lowcountry Backyard, Frankie Bones, and One Hot Mama's.
For entertainment, visit Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina for live music, waterfront dining, and seasonal fireworks shows. Families and kids of all ages will also find plenty to enjoy around the island, including miniature golf, pirate adventures, dolphin cruises, charter fishing excursions, playgrounds, museums, and countless outdoor activities.
Whether you’re looking for relaxation on the beach or nonstop island adventure, Hilton Head and Palmetto Dunes offer something for everyone.
